This project is something of a meta-synthesis and critique of literacy tools. Many of the current health literacy tools lack a rhetorical awareness and try to reduce the complexities of literacy and comprehension to a checklist. By examining the tools in light of scholarship in rhetoric, user experience, and technical communication, we hope to provide alternative avenues for determining health literacy.

Much of this work directly intersects with both the online health information seeking project and the work we’re doing with the attention-comprehension gap.
